From December 1st to 12th, nine individuals will embark on a transformative journey from Sydney to Davao as part of the 2024 Marist Laity Australia Immersion. This immersive experience is an opportunity to witness and engage with the vibrant Marist and Mercy mission in the Philippines, fostering deeper connections within the global Marist and Mercy family.

Our group comprises five ex-students from Mercy Catholic College, one young adult connected to the (“Other Half ZOOM Program” and Our of Dolours parishioner) and two lay Marists and two Mercy College teachers. Together, we aim to explore what it means to live out the Marist and Mercy spirit in the unique cultural and social context of the Philippines.

During the immersion, we will visit and serve in a variety of ministries, including:
  • An orphanage offering care and hope to vulnerable children.
  • A preschool for refugees, where children receive education and nourishment.
  • A prison, where we will encounter and support those living in challenging conditions.
  • A mothers’ group, building community and solidarity with women seeking a better future for their families.
This journey is also about building relationships with the broader Marist family. We will connect with Marist Laity, Marist Fathers, Marist Sisters, and Marist Brothers, sharing in their mission and learning from their dedication.

As we document our experiences, reflections, and encounters, we invite you to follow our journey through this blog. Your prayers and support during this time, from December 1st to 12th, mean the world to us as we seek to be instruments of hope, compassion, and service.

Thank you for journeying with us!
