Connecting

Today at the feeding centre I was playing a maths game with two girls and Michelle. It was a simple game where I would ask an addition question and they would answer it using their fingers. When another girl joined in, I thought to write their names down and tally whoever answered the question correctly first. Once I started calling them by their names, and using their names when congratulating them on gaining a tally, they brightened up and became more engaged. This reminded me the power of connecting personally to those in need, and the value of seeing them for their abilities and individuality rather than just another person in need. This is a photo of one of the girls who was playing the game. Her name is Mary, and she is wearing a lanyard with a photo of me and my boyfriend in it after she expressed the previous day how happy she was that he was treating me well :)
